La Manga de Mar Menor

In the simplest of translations, La Manga de Mar Menor means “the sleeve of the little sea”,
and when you take a look at this area you can understand why..

The Mar Menor is a salty lagoon, which has been separated from the rest of the Mediterranean Sea by a strip of land 22kms in length and a width that varies from 100 to 1200 meters wide. The area it self needs no explanation as to why it attracts such swarms of people, the lagoon is warm and the water is clear. It has been described by many as “the largest swimming pool in the world.”

The high concentration of salt within the water from the sea aids floatation and has made this destination perfect for water sports fanatics and sunbathers taking full advantage of the salts remedial value. At its deepest, the Mar Menor lagoon reaches only 8 meters and maintains a water temperature of no lower than 17 degrees on average throughout the year.

For all these reasons, this area has become increasingly popular through the years, and with the influx of tourism came property and infrastructure. In recent years, La Manga has been famous for celebrity visitors such as the England Football team (whilst in training) including the infamous David Beckham. In fact, it was at one point rumoured that David and Victoria Beckham were looking at buying a home on the La Manga strip.

La Manga has also become famed for its golf course, which thanks to the beautiful setting has drawn golfing tours from all over the world.
