Pilar de la Horadada

Located on the southern most tip of the province of Alicante,
those travelling Spain will find the charming town of Pilar de la Horadada...

A town with much history and just as much beauty. The history of this town reaches back to the 15th century, when the town gained its name from the watchtower in Torre del la Horadada. The tower was constructed to warn towns’ folk of attacks from Barbary pirates who once sailed along the coastline, frequently raiding unsuspecting villages between the 14th and 17th centuries.

Its beaches have since continued to attract many people, however, these days the pirates have given way to the tourists and pirate ships have made way for expensive yachts that scatter the shore line looking for the next harbour.

Pilar de la Horadada was given independence from Orihuela back in 1986, and has since celebrated its independence day each year on the 30th of July, something many Spanish regions do.

Unsurprisingly, this date is met with fiestas in the true Spanish tradition. Tourism has helped the town much over the past few years, with many expats choosing this part of the coast to re-locate or even have their holiday home.

Many of the beaches along this stretch have been given the blue flag award, and continue to attract sun seekers each and every year.
